About

Hi and welcome to my blog dedicated to helping CFA candidates. The CFA exam is one of the most challenging courses in the world and certainly the most valuable financial title that you can get outside of school. It’s a way to distinguish yourself from all others that are competing for those top jobs. No matter if you aspire to an analyst, trader, portfolio manager or any other job or even if you have already landed such a job, the CFA is a great way to jump to that next level.

Of course, passing it is much easier said than done and it is probably better that way. What value would the title hold if anyone could pass it with minimal effort? As you can imagine, that value would be rather small. I recently finished my 3rd and final CFA level exam and couldn’t be happier to move to the next step. Like every other candidate, I had the temptation to get home and burn all of my notes and books after writing my exam but then I had a flash when trying to help some friends who were starting the whole process. While the CFA institute provides the general guidelines to pass the exam, I don’t think there exists an optimal way of learning online or helping candidates get as good of a preparation as possible. So I decided to write a blog about it. The project started off very small and I certainly intend to keep it that way although I have been given so many ideas by friends and colleagues. To start off, we will be covering quite a few subjects in preparation for the CFA Level 1 exam of June 2012. Here is what we intend to cover:

-To do or not to do? How do decide if the CFA is right for you?
-Why so many candidates fail the CFA exams?
-Basic preparation strategies
-The material itself

  • Ethics
  • Quantitative methods
  • Economics
  • Financial Reporting and analysis
  • Corporate Finance
  • Equity investments
  • Fixed income investments
  • Derivatives
  • Alternative investments
  • Portfolio Management and wealth planning

-Strategies and reminders for the final days prior to your big exam day
-Exam Strategies
-Much more…

Obviously, we will not cover the material in depth and you will still need to both invest time and money into getting the actual books and summaries but the objective here is to give you a few more tools and more some emphasis on parts that are critical to your success. We will be more than happy to help out with any questions you will have and there will probably even be debates and discussions on many of these subjects. As much as we’d all like this material to be black & white, it is not always entirely clear and that becomes even more true as you reach Level #2 and Level #3. In the meantime, we would also welcome any comments, suggestions or requests about what you would like to know. And obviously, we invite you to join our free newsletter to receive all of these posts in your inbox as well as some extra tips and one or two ebooks if all goes well. It is free and you can unsubscribe at any point in time.

That being said, we would like to wish you the best of luck in your preparation if you have decided to take this major step, and look forward to hearing from you along the process! Best of luck!

Important note: In case it was not clear, we are not affiliated in any way with the CFA Institute or its program, we are simply resource that will do its best to be as helpful as possible in the process.
